Old Kids Still On The Block

So, the greatest welterweight fighter of the modern day has claimed he is better than the best. Cassius Clay. Muhammad Ali as he is better known is in the top two best fighters of all time. Yet, in the build up to his fight in Johnny (Vegas) this Saturday, the ever-outspoken Floyd 'Money' Mayweather has claimed he is better than both Ali and "the greatest" - the legendary Sugar Ray Robinson.

[Cassius Clay (Ali) in his prime often called himself the "greatest"]

We are more than used to seeing lil' Floyd talk the talk, and then walk the walk, but, this is the boldest statement to date, and walking the talk in this circumstance is virtually impossible, even if the 33 year-old becomes undisputed. The boy Clay was equally outspoken but matured into a wise fighter, with sound head and notorious jab. Ray Robinson (Walter Smith Jr) was similar, and in my opinion, as well as that of Ali himself and the bible-esque The Ring magazine the greatest of all time. Floyd, let your boxing do the talking.
[Sugar Ray Robinson called the greatest by the self dubbed greatest Ali]

I would never for one second motion towards Floyd not being a great fighter, or in fact motion towards him being the only outspoken fighter out there, but, to say he was better than Ali and Sugar Ray, is not only incomparable, but also inconceivable to me. Before a big fight however, albeit non-title it will throw Mosley and push Mayweather confidence off the scale. Superficial or not one thing remains clear...Fight Manny Pacquiao, beat him, then we may look at the history books.
